WCU Board of Trustees approve Chris Williams as the university’s CIO

On Friday, June 14, WCU’s Board of Trustees approved Chris Williams as the university's chief information officer. Williams, who comes to WCU after spending the last nine years as the IT director for Student Affairs at UNC at Chapel Hill, will begin his new position Monday, June 24.

Rich Price, an alumnus and the executive director of economic development and strategic partnerships since January 2021, has been named WCU’s chief marketing and strategic partnerships officer.

Brian Byrd, WCU’s mosquito expert and professor, along with Scott Huffman, professor in the Department of Chemistry and Physics, have been approved for grant funding from NCInnovation.

Shannon Swimmer named director of WCU Cherokee Center

Shannon Swimmer received a master’s degree in human resource management from Western Carolina University in 2007. After several years working in tribal law, Swimmer has returned to WCU in a new capacity, as director of the Cherokee Center.
