Information on Study Abroad

Students apply through the applicaiton portal on our website. A member of the Office of Global Engagement will work with your student to find a program that meets their personal, professional, and academic needs. Students’ academic advisors help them decide on courses abroad that fit into their academic plan and continue progress towards graduation.

Eligibility requirements to participate in study abroad programming are 30 post-high school college credits (typically one year of college), a minimum 2.75 GPA and good academic standing. There may be additional admission requirements depending on the host program, such as language or course requirements.

Students who want to apply for any study abroad program should begin by exploring our website, studyabroad.wcu.edu, and beginning and application. Students are encouraged from the beginning of the process to also set up an appointment with the Office of Global Engagement where they can learn more specific details about the study abroad experince.

The Office of Global Engagement will communicate with your student prior to departure, during their time abroad and upon return to help them reflect on their experiences.

The Office of Global Engagement works hard to monitor issues related to safety prior to the departure of your student and during their stay abroad. We only work with partners that we feel can offer a safe experience.

Through the pre-departure orientation, students learn what to look out for and provide resources specific to their location.  We hope the resources provided equip you with the knowledge to best support your student before, during and after their time abroad.

Our students’ physical and mental well-being is our first priority.
