Scholarships & Aid

There are a variety of  program-specific scholarships available for students in both Engineering + Technology and Construction Management programs. Students are required to complete and file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for need-based scholarships. The university's Office of Financial Aid can give students complete information about other financial aid options, including grants, work-study and loans, as well as dates and deadlines for aid applications.

2023-2024 Deadlines:

  • WCU Scholarship Application Deadline: February 1, 2023
  • FAFSA Priority Filing Deadline: January 2, 2023

Scholarships in Engineering and Technology

The following Engineering and Technology scholarships are awarded in April each year. All scholarship application materials must be submitted to the WCU Scholarship website.

Albert Weaver III Engineering Student-Athlete Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of WCU alumnus Albert Weaver, this scholarship provides support for student-athletes who are pursuing a degree in engineering.

Carlton and Margaret Couch Scholarships - Endowed through the generosity of Stephen Couch in honor of Carlton and Margaret Couch, this scholarship provides support for students studying an engineering discipline.

Caterpillar Equipment Scholarship - Awards of up to $2,000 are available to outstanding, full-time engineering technology students. Preference is given to students from Cherokee, Clay, Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties.

Duke Energy Foundation Scholarship - Established by the generosity of the Duke Energy Foundation, this scholarship provides support for students who are majoring in engineering or engineering technology.

Eaton Corporation Scholars Annual Scholarship - Established by the generosity of the Eaton Corporation, this annual scholarship provides support for students who are majoring in an engineering field.

FLiTE Scholarship Program - Funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), this scholarship seeks to foster the development of future engineering entrepreneurs in technological innovation by recruiting undergraduate students with demonstrated creative potential, financial need and academic ability.

Fluor Corporation Annual Scholarship - Established by the Fluor Corporation, this annual scholarship provides support for students in the College of Engineering and Technology.

Gene Haas Scholarship - Established through the generosity of the Gene Haas Foundation, this scholarship provides support to students in machinist-based training or engineering programs.

Hopkins and Ray Engineering and Technology Endowed Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Jeffrey and Tina Ray, this scholarship provides support for first-year students with a declared major in engineering or engineering technology.  Preference will be given to students with demonstrated participation and success in FIRST Robotics competitions and a willingness and desire to lead FIRST efforts within the College of Engineering and Technology.

Hugh M. Tomberlin Scholarship (Engineering and Technology)- Endowed through the generosity of Jeffrey and Miriam Tomberlin, this scholarship provides support for students in the College of Engineering and Technology.

Jackson Paper Scholarship - Awards are available to outstanding full-time students in electrical engineering. Preference is given to students who are residents of Western North Carolina.

Jerry and Mickey Cook Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of WCU alumni Jerry and Mickey Cook, this scholarship provides support for students pursuing a degree within the School of Engineering and Technology. 

Joan and Chris Meister Scholarship (Engineering) - Endowed through the generosity of Pam Meister, this scholarship provides support to students in nursing and engineering. The scholarship will alternate between the two academic programs.

Joshua Thomas Grooms Scholarship - Established by the family of Joshua Grooms, this scholarship provides support for juniors and seniors majoring in engineering technology. While a student at WCU, Joshua was involved in the Industrial Distribution Club and founded its annual golf tournament. He received the Industrial Distribution Program's Outstanding Senior Award in 1997.

Mark L. and Grace T. Battle Scholarship - This scholarship has been endowed through a gift made by Mark and Grace Battle to assist students with at least a 3.0 GPA in earning a degree from Western Carolina University. Preference will be given to students from Jackson County, NC, who are pursuing a degree in business or engineering and who have demonstrated financial need.

Mary Lee McAllister Scholarship - This scholarship has been endowed in loving memory of Mary Lee McAllister by family members and colleagues. It provides support for students who are pursuing a degree in the area of electronics engineering technology. Eligibility Requirements: 3.0 GPA; major in Electronics Engineering Technology; junior or senior; involvement in electronics engineering technology program activities; financial need.

Nuclear Regulatory Commission - This scholarship is for full time sophomores, juniors or seniors pursuing a degree in Electric Power or Mechanical Engineering. Available beginning Fall 2017. Program participants will receive a $5,000 scholarship per semester (renewable each semester if academic milestones are met).

Ray and Sonia McGowan Engineering and Technology in Athletics Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Ray and Sonia McGowan, this scholarship provides support for student-athletes who are pursuing a degree in the College of Engineering and Technology.

Richard and Linda Moss Annual Engineering Scholarship - Established through the generosity of Richard and Linda Moss, this scholarship provides support for students majoring in engineering or engineering technology.

Samuel E. White Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Martha White in honor of her husband, this scholarship provides support to students who are majoring in engineering. Mrs. White was a partial founder of the nursing program at Western Carolina University.

Stephen and Cathy Edmonds Scholarship - Endowed by Stephen Edmonds, this fund supports students who are majoring in engineering. Potential recipients will be actively involved in gas turbine studies or the gas turbine lab. Eligibility Requirements: 3.0 GPA; major in engineering; no sanctions in place at time of award; preference given to applications who are actively involved in gas turbine related studies or the gas turbine lab.

Thomas Andrew Scotchie Memorial Scholarship - Awards are given to an outstanding senior with the highest GPA in engineering technology.

Thomas Barger College of Engineering and Technology Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Thomas Barger, this scholarship provides support to students majoring in a program in the College of Engineering and Technology.

Timothy and Emily Campbell Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Jackson Paper, the Campbell Scholarship provides financial support for residents of Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain counties. Preference is given to students with a declared major in the College of Business or College of Engineering and Technology.

TiMOTION Annual Scholarship - Established through the generosity of TiMOTION, this scholarship provides support for undergraduate students who are majoring in engineering or engineering technology.

Whitehead-Carlson Honors College Engineering and Technology Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Mark and Katherine Whitehead, this scholarship provides support for members of the WCU Honors College who are majoring in a degree program within the College of Engineering and Technology.

Scholarships in Construction Management 

Scholarships for construction management students are offered through many construction industry associations; some are sponsored by companies specifically for CM majors at WCU. All scholarship application materials must be submitted to the WCU Scholarship website.

America's Homeplace Annual Scholarship - Established by the generosity of America's Homeplace, this scholarship provides support to students in the Construction Management program.

Bolton Construction and Service Annual Scholarship - Established through the generosity of Bolton Construction, this scholarship provides support for students majoring in construction management.

Hamilton-Wheatley Scholarship for Construction Leadership - Endowed through the generosity of Alex Hamilton and Jared Wheatley, this scholarship provides support for students who are pursuing a career in construction management.

Harold Lee Raynor, Jr. Memorial Construction Management Scholarship - Established in honor of Harold Raynor by his son Brent and daughter-in-law Jamie, this scholarship provides support to students majoring in Construction Management. Raynor was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He worked for Lowes for many years and following his retirement, he started his own residential building company and constructed custom homes and townhomes throughout South Carolina. This scholarship is intended to support students who are pursuing their own dreams in the field of Construction Management. 

Joe Kimmel Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Kimmel and Associates, Inc. this scholarship provides support for students majoring in Construction Management.

NHM Constructors Construction Management Annual Scholarship - Established through the generosity of NHM Constructors, this scholarship provides support for construction management majors.

Shelco, LLC Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Shelco, LLC, this scholarship has been established to provide support to students in the Construction Management program. 

Vannoy Construction Management Scholarship - Endowed through the generosity of Vannoy Construction, this scholarship provides support to students majoring in construction management.
