Leadership

Chris Williams

 

Chris Williams, an information technology executive with over 25 years of experience in public higher education, is Western Carolina University’s Chief Information Officer and member of the Executive Council.

As a member of WCU's senior management team, the CIO is responsible for overseeing the university’s information technology operations and providing strategic leadership in planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining technology and information systems that support the academic and administrative goals of the university.

Before joining WCU in June 2024, Chris served in various IT leadership roles at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for the last 25 years. Most recently, he served as the Student Affairs IT Director and previously served as the ResNET Program Director.

A graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Chris earned his Master’s degree in Business Administration with an Information Systems concentration from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and completed the Certified Government CIO Program through the UNC School of Government.
