How To Instructions

THIS PAGE IS INTENDED AS A GUIDE FOR CURRENTLY ENROLLED STUDENTS.

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box
  • Click the “Registration” link
  • Click “View Schedule Information”
  • Click the drop-down box at “Term” and select the current term

OR

  • Click "Search for..." bar (purple) at the top of the myWCU Student Homepage
  • Type “Registration” or “Classes and Registration”

  • Click “View Schedule Information”

  • Click the drop-down box at “Term” and select the current term

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box

  • Click the “Student Profile” link

OR

  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box

  • Click “Advising and Tutoring” (takes you to your Navigate homepage)

  • View “Your Success Team” box in the lower right corner of the page (your faculty and professional advisors will be listed)

  • Click Staff Directory link at bottom of WCU homepage under FACULTY & STAFF RESOURCES heading
  • Enter whatever information you have for the person and click Search (last name may be all the information needed)
  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box

  • Click the “Student Profile” link

  • Click the “Registration Notices” in the upper right-hand corner.

  • View the “From” date under Time Tickets

OR

  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box
  • Click the “Registration” link

  •  

    Click the “Check Registration Status”

  •  

    Select appropriate term in Select a Term drop-down menu and click “Submit”

  • Your ALT PIN can only be provided by your Primary Advisor (listed in your Student Profile)
  • Prior to your assigned Registration Day frequently check your Catamount Email for advising instructions provided by your assigned Advisor or Major Department.

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click "Search for..." bar (purple) at the top of the myWCU Student Homepage
  • Type “Schedule of Classes” and select the link
  • Select appropriate term in Select a Term drop-down menu and click “Submit”
  • Search specific classes in the Subject and Course Number categories and click the “Search” button
  • OR click “Advanced Search” and search classes based on other categories, such as “Attribute”, “Instructional Methods”, and “Open Sections Only” and click the “Search” button

  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box and click the “Registration” link
  • Select “Register – Add/Drop/Withdraw”
  • Select the term and click the “Continue” button
  • Select or type course subject

AND

  • Select appropriate term in "Select a Term" drop-down menu and click "Submit" tab
  • Enter your Alt PIN (if required)

SEARCH FOR A SPECIFIC COURSE

  • Select "Register - Add/Drop/Withdraw"
  • Select the term and click "Continue" button
  • Select or type course subject
    • If course number unknown, click "search"
    • If course number known, place in course number box, click "search"
    • If keyword is necessary, include in "keyword" box, then click "search"

OR

SEARCH FOR MULTIPLE COURSES THAT FULFILL A SPECIFIC ATTRIBUTE (i.e. all courses that fulfill a particular Liberal Studies category, meet at a desired time or campus location, are offered in a particular instructional format, or with a specific instructor)

  • Select the term and click "Continue" button
  • Click "Advanced Search"
  • Select area of interest in "Attribute" box
  • Indicate any other limitation information and click "Search"

AND

  • Click on the "Add" box to the right of the course section you want to add to your schedule and the course should appear in your summary screen as "Pending"
  • Click "Submit" in the bottom right corner and if there wern't any errors, the course will be added to your schedule.

OR

  • Click on "Enter CRNs"
  • Add the 5-digit CRN for the classes you want to add in the boxes at the bottom of the Class Worksheet and click "Submit Changes"

Check to make sure the course is added to your course list. Go to the Registration Information page for an explanation of Registration Errors and Holds 

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box and click the “Registration” link

OR

  • Click “Search for…” bar at the top of myWCU Student Homepage
  • Type “Registration”, click the Registration link

AND

  • Select “Register – Add/Drop/Withdraw”
  • Select the term and click the “Continue” button
  • In the “Action” column next to the class you want to drop, select “Web Drop” from the drop down box
  • Click “Submit” at the bottom right corner of the page
 
  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box and click the “Registration” link

OR

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “Search for…” bar at the top of myWCU Student Homepage
  • Type “Registration”, click the Registration link

AND

  • Select “Register – Add/Drop/Withdraw”
  • Select the term and click the “Continue” button
  • Review the information about Course Withdrawal Eligibility
  • Click "I would like to withdraw from a course" button
  • Click in circle to the left of the course(s) that you want to withdraw from
  • Click "Withdraw from Selected Course" button

Withdrawing from all courses during a term requires a student to withdraw from the university - click this University Withdrawals link to view policies and instructions.

  • Schedule an appointment with the advisor liaison to the major you want to declare. You want to do this through Navigate (“Advising and Tutoring” link under My Apps in your myWCU). You must schedule an appointment with the correct Advisor who is the liaison for the department.

Western Carolina University offers many programs leading to professional licensure or certification.  If you are considering a degree program which leads to professional licensure or certification, it’s important for you to understand if the program meets the requirements in the state you are planning to reside and work.  More information on Professional Licensure or Certification 

Changing or declaring a MINOR or CONCENTRATION within your major does not require an appointment. Stop by the Advising Center on weekdays from 10 AM to 4 PM to meet with the Walk-In Advisor who will submit your request.

 

An APPROVED PROGRAM is a specific set of courses approved by your major department to fulfill your degree requirements. Many major programs require a Second Major, a Minor, or an Approved Program.

  • Consult with your primary faculty advisor to determine the specific courses and credit hours required for an Approved Program
  • Courses taken in preparation for application to professional schools beyond a bachelor's degree (e.g. medical school, dental school, physical therapy school, etc.) are often packaged in an Approved Program - see Pre-Professional Programs Advising for details
  • Your primary advisor will submit a request to have the Approved Program added to your major program and degree audit

 

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box
  • Click the “Student Profile” link
  • On the left side of the page, click “Degree Evaluation” under your name and CatCard photo.
  • Select the Current Term from the pulldown.
  • On the “Generate New Evaluation” tab, select the program for evaluation under Curriculum Information (the circle will turn blue and the program will be highlighted), and click the “Generate New Request” button.
  • Wait for the evaluation to generate (this will take a few minutes to retrieve a lot of information).
  • Courses with a red No in the Met column = courses you still need to satisfy degree requirements.
  • Courses with a blue Yes in the Met column = courses you have completed, or you are registered for to satisfy degree requirements.

                               

  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box
  • Click the “Student Profile” link
  • On the left side of the page, click “Degree Evaluation” under your name and CatCard photo.
  • Select the Current Term from the pulldown.
  • On the “What-If Analysis” tab, select the Entry Term you would like to start this major.
  • Search and select the “Program.”
  • Select the “First Major” from the drop-down menu.
  • To add a concentration(s), select the options offered from the drop-down menu.
  • To add a minor(s), search and select the minor from the “First Minor” drop-down menu.
  • Select the current term in the “Evaluation Term” drop-box menu and check the “Use In-Progress Courses” box.
  • Click the “Generate Request” button at the bottom of the page.
  • Wait for the evaluation to generate (this will take a few minutes to retrieve a lot of information).
  • Courses with a red No in the Met column = courses you still need to satisfy degree requirements.
  • Courses with a blue Yes in the Met column = courses you have completed, or you are registered for to satisfy degree requirements.

  • Log into myWCU
  • Click “All Apps” in “My Apps” box
  • Click the “Student Profile” link
  • On the left side of the page, click the “Credits Earned Elsewhere” tab (third from the bottom) under your CatCard photo.

AND

  • Select appropriate term in "Select a Term" drop-down menu and click "Submit" button
  • View how your coursework transferred to WCU from other colleges or universities
  • You must have earned a C or better to receive WCU credit for a course
  • Speak with an advisor in the Advising Center if you have questions about how your transfer courses were evaluated

Students who feel they should have received transfer credit for WCU Liberal Studies classes will submit requests for a re-evaluation to liberalstudies@wcu.edu. All other requests for a re-evaluation of transfer classes should be emailed to registrarsoffice@wcu.edu

  • On the left side of the page, click the “Attendance and Progress Grades” under your CatCard photo.

 

Grade of S = satisfactory and falls within grade range A+ to C
Grade of U = unsatisfactory and falls within grade range C- to F
